PACT ARTS FOCUS PROGRAM RECEIVES MAYOR'S AWARD

Carmen Mizell and Jean Moranda attended the City of Mountain View's Mayor's Award Ceremony. Our program, Arts Focus, was honored for its Educational Contribution:

"For providing developmentally appropriate, hands-on learning opportunities in the arts for students in grades K through 5. Innovative teaching methods and curriculum build a strong community among the multi-age students, their teachers, and parents."
Jean Moranda writes: "Listening to the mayor read this description made me re-understand the significance of our program. It's truly unusual for a public school to have 40+ parent volunteers lead a collaboration with 8 teachers and over 160 students for 60 hours of instruction time per year. All participants in this program are continually challenged (or offered the opportunity) to take risks that stimulate learning...And art making is learning!

It was truly and honor to accept this award on behalf of the many, many parent volunteers, students, and teachers who have made Arts Focus work and evolve for the past six-and-one- half years. We should be proud."
